The Best Places to Stay in Franschhoek, South Africa

19 Sep, 2018

The Franschhoek Valley is one of South Africa’s most famous wine regions, and for good reason. Distinct from the nearby Paarl and Stellenbosch wine districts, Franschhoek is blessed with a warm, temperate, Mediterranean-esque climate moderated by the surrounding Wemmershoek, Groot Drakenstein, and Franschhoekmountain ranges. These, and the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve especially, are laced with scenic hiking trails to spectacular viewpoints over a valley floor filled with vineyards stretching right up into the terraced foothills. The town of Franschhoek itself lives up to its name (Franschhoekmeans “French corner”), as you can still find architecture and culinary traditions brought by the Huguenots exiled from France in the 17th century.

We’ve compiled some accommodation with prime access to vineyard properties in order to make your experience the most enjoyable. Let’s start at the top, shall we?

La Residence villas are surrounded by 30 acres of plum orchards and vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, while still being just a 5-minute walk from Franschhoek. Guests can enjoy complimentary wine tastings, along with sublime dining, service, scenery, and spa.
